Cat Owner Level: Expert

When I was younger, I had cat furniture for my cat. It was one of those houses that doubles as a scratching post. Really nice and cozy and functional….until the cat gets fleas. And, there is no way to completely rid those things of fleas because they can’t go in the wash. After that, I stayed away from pet furniture. Scratching posts or things like that were fine because they didn’t have a lot of fabric for fleas or other critters to attach to. But, I figured it was never a necessity because cats love sleeping in boxes, or shoes, or blankets, or laundry so they don’t really need purchased stuff.

That all changed recently. I had some store credit to use and I usually don’t hold onto store credit or gift cards for too long……There wasn’t a lot that I was interested in for myself…..or the girls…..or Ryan……but, I found a cat tent. Yep. A cat tent.

I told myself that it was ok because 1) it was able to go in the laundry if needed and 2) it was the perfect size for the girls to use with their dolls if the cat didn’t take to it.

Behold! The glory of a super content cat hanging out in her new tent!

Now, would I have purchased this if I didn’t have a store credit that needed to be used in that particular store? Um. No. But, I will go ahead and say that it is a pretty good purchase.

I think that Buddy would agree.

My Kid is Excited About Pasta Salad

My kid is excited about pasta salad. How in the world did I get that to happen? Well, it all begins with fun pasta.

Pasta with fun shapes? Yea. That got her interested.

Then, I did veggie prep and she got to add the veggies but also snack on the veggies as I cut them. She might not consistently eat veggies at dinner, but if I just hand her a couple while I cut them, she’ll eat them up.

When making a pasta salad, I tend to just put whatever I have into the salad. So, this time I added tomatoes, celery, and green pepper. I had some marinated artichoke hearts that I cut up and added (big girl decided that she likes artichokes) and then I tossed in some canned tuna (big girl also decided that she likes canned tuna because “it tastes like chicken”). I added a can of kidney beans but big girl is like her daddy and isn’t a big fan of beans. I then tossed it all together with some Italian dressing.

We put the finished salad in the fridge after the pasta was done cooking so that it could cool and so the dressing could work its way into the ingredients.

Finished product? Big girl loved it. Who knew? I think that this summer is going to be filled with pasta salads.

Lego my legos

We are now at a new level of parenting. There are now toys in our house that everyone wants to play with. Kids. Mom. Dad. Yep. Legos have officially taken over our living room. We have had lots of Duplos in the house but now we have a good mix of Duplos and Legos. We are now at a point in which Ryan and I are dreaming ahead to when we can buy more complex sets and all have some building fun…….(Also, when there aren’t Legos all over the floor, chances are really good that we are in the middle of watching Lego Movie.)

So…..I know what sets I wanna buy……not sure if the girls will be as into these ones though……

Garden Update – Here Comes Spring!

We had snow this week! Actual snow! And I’m not very happy about it! Now, I am fully aware that we’ve had a very easy winter for the most part. There has been very little snow and the temperatures have been fairly mild. I think that that’s why this week’s snow seems like such a giant leap backward. I thought that we were done with winter. Although, this year, it seems as though we were done with winter in early January……

Anyways……

The front yard is starting to wake up. There is new growth popping up everywhere. We did a lot of work in the front yard last summer. We moved a lot of plants and planted many new ones. I’m excited and anxious to see how all of the new plants do this year.

Spring is springing

I love all signs of spring. Flowers. Grass becoming greener and greener. Warmer temperatures. Swapping out coats for jackets. Buds on trees. More sunlight. Spring rain showers. And……Peeps. So many many Peeps. Chocolate dipped Peeps. Peeps on sticks. Peeps pillows. Doesn’t this just look springy to you? I am tempted to try out those new flavors but for now, I will just dream of the spring season to come.
